Home Port Marina Upgrades

Significant Upgrades Completed at Home Port Marina
Former high technology executive brings Silicon Valley to Pleasant Harbor

The Home Port Marina located in Pleasant Harbor has just completed a significant upgrade of its facilities adding new capabilities and safety features. Owned and operated by Olympic Peninsula residents Bob and Lisa Wise the facility has long been a favorite for Jefferson and Mason County boaters.

“We are building a state of the art marina,” Wise said. “We are implementing a comprehensive technology platform that protects our tenant’s boats and brings new amenities that make boating more enjoyable”. The marina has 95 slips, ranging in length from 20’ to 85’ in length that are available for lease on an annual basis.

The marina just completed a complete overhaul of its utilities and installed a new computer network to deliver advanced services to its customers. The upgrade started with installation of new power pedestals on all the docks. Home Port is the first marina in Hood Canal to install advanced monitoring equipment that protects from the hazards caused by stray electrical current. Stray electric current discharge from improperly wired boats at marinas can threaten the safety of slip holders and presents the risk of damage to their vessels berthed at the docks.

The new monitoring system connects all the power pedestals to an internet-based cloud service and provides real-time updates of the utilities at each slip. In addition to monitoring utility usage if the system detects a dangerous ground fault situation it immediately alerts management. In addition, the marina upgraded its gates by installing an access control system, added high definition security cameras, installed a backup power generator, deployed an internet connected commercial weather station and upgraded its Wi-Fi network. All these systems are part of a high technology upgrade which connects Home Port to a Marina Operations Center run by the Wise’s. According to Wise “these upgrades enhance our ability to provide great customer service and enhance the boating experience.

The Home Port Marina property is a full-service facility and includes an onshore building with restrooms, showers, a laundry facility, and boaters lounge. In addition, there is a picnic area with BBQ’s, fish cleaning station and parking for 50 cars.

“Each year, more and more residents discover the recreational boating and fishing opportunities our region provides. We want our facility to serve this group and become the moorage of choice for many years to come”, Wise said.

The Wise’s own two other marinas, the Eagle Harbor Marina on Bainbridge Island and the Port Hadlock Marina in Port Townsend Bay. Bob Wise is a former high technology executive and is also a Director of the Recreational Boaters Association of Washington (RBAW) which lobbies lawmakers on behalf of Washington’s 300,000 boaters. He is also a member of the Washington Public Ports Association, member of the Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters and is the former chairman of the Bainbridge Island Harbor Commission.
