8:00 pm: Bioluminescence / Night Kayaking Tour

Bioluminescence / Night Kayaking Tour
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This 1.5 to 2 hour guided night tour with Hood Canal Adventures begins between 8pm and 9pm with times adjusting for sunset. The darker it is, the better to observe bioluminescent plankton. As you paddle through the waters, bioluminescent plankton will light up like fireflies! The more you splash and agitate the water with your hands and paddles the more you will make the water sparkle! And don’t forget to look up to stars! We may also see meteors, bats and maybe hear a squawking heron or a startled harbor seal.
Please arrive at our office (306146 Hwy 101 N, Brinnon) at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time to sign in and caravan to the launch site. Your kayaks will be waiting for you on the beach.
Your registration requires prepayment and is non refundable if you cancel within one week of the tour date, or if you do not show. If we must cancel the tour due to weather, the full amount will be refunded to you.
All equipment is included including kayaks, pfds, paddles etc. A mixture of single kayaks and tandem kayaks will be utilized. Your guides gladly accept cash tips!

Lunch in the Wild Kayaking Tour with Hood Canal Adventures
11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Hood Canal Adventures for a 3.5 hour LUNCH IN THE WILD KAYAKING TOUR! On this guided adventure you paddle along the rocky shoreline of the North Hood Canal in search of the area’s abundant wildlife before stopping at a secluded beach for lunch, swimming, and beach combing. Seals, eagles, marine invertebrates, small fish and river otters may be spotted along the way and occasionally we encounter larger marine mammals such as Orca, humpback whales and California Sea Lions.

Bring your own lunch or arrange with us to pick up a sandwich lunch from The Pleasant Harbor Marina Galley ($16 each). Please wear shoes that are sturdy and can get wet. There are many oysters on the beach were we dine, swim and beachcomb and they can be quite sharp. 1:00 pm: WSU Plant Clinic at Jefferson County Library: Ask a Master Gardener

WSU Plant Clinic at Jefferson County Library: Ask a Master Gardener
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Meet with Master Gardeners for assistance with your gardening questions! Volunteers will provide advice grounded in research-based science and work in partnership with you on horticulture topics. Find the right plant for your environment, learn about composting or insect infestations, investigate the unknown pathogen destroying your beloved plants, and everything in between! Plant Clinics are held in the Humphrey Room on the second Saturday of each month.

If you’d like to bring in a plant sample, please follow the instructions below:

  • Plant problem: the sample should clearly show both unhealthy and healthy tissue. To keep your sample fresh, put the cut end of the stem in a moist paper towel. Be careful to keep your cut plants in a cool and dark location to prevent wilting.
  • Plant identification: include photos or samples of the vegetative part of the plant (leaves, branches, stems), a portion of the fruiting or flowering structure, and a representative portion of the stem or bark. The more structures, the better chance for correct identification.
  • Insect identification: bring an intact specimen in a small container soon after capture. Store in a cool dark place.

For more information, please contact Bridget Gregg at bridget.gregg@wsu.edu

2:00 pm: WSU Plant Clinic at the Quilcene Community Center from Jefferson County Library

WSU Plant Clinic at the Quilcene Community Center from Jefferson County Library
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Meet with Master Gardeners for assistance with your gardening questions! Volunteers will provide advice grounded in research-based science and work in partnership with you on horticulture topics. Find the right plant for your environment, learn about composting or insect infestations, investigate the unknown pathogen destroying your beloved plants, and everything in between!

The more structures, the better the chance for correct identification.
  • Insect identification: bring an intact specimen in a small container soon after capture. Store in a cool dark place.

For more information, please contact Bridget Gregg at bridget.gregg@wsu.edu

1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

The Dosewallips Estuary Tour is one of the most popular guided kayaking adventures. This 3 hour round-trip paddle takes us to the Dosewallips River Estuary where we will watch the amazing array of year round and seasonal wildlife and explore the lower river channels. Our Biologist or Naturalist Guide will teach you about the wildlife we see and talk about the natural history of the Hood Canal. The Dosewallips Estuary is one of Washington’s largest intact estuaries and is home to up to 100 harbor seals, bald eagles, blue herons, salmon, river otters and much more. If your lucky we’ll spot Brinnon’s herd of Roosevelt Elk grazing on the banks.
