This class is $35/participant, and limited to 15 people.

Join Hood Canal Adventures for a fun and educational FOREST EDIBLES TOUR to learn about wild edible & medicinal plants, lichen and fungi of the Pacific Northwest! Your knowledgeable guide, Herpetologist and Professional Forager, Jerry Novak, will take you on a 2.5 hour walk through meadow, wetland, forest, and riparian habitats in search of the season’s bountiful wild edible and medicinal plants, mushrooms and lichen found on the Olympic Peninsula. A delicious tea will be prepared for you along the river with what we find along the way!
Transportation in our tour van is provided. Those with pups or those who choose to linger and forage or have lunch along the river are welcome to follow us in your own vehicle. You will also receive a 15% off coupon for Pleasant Harbor Pizza & Galley to redeem for lunch after the tour, or use at your convenience. This tour is conducted April through October. Meet at Hood Canal Adventures’ store & office (306146 Hwy 101 N, Brinnon) between 10:00 and 10:20 am to sign in for a 10:30 departure. The shop is located at the south end of the Brinnon Community Center. Tour group size will be between 6 and 14 participants. April through June, Hood Canal Adventures offers a 2.5 hour American Bald Eagle Viewing Kayak Tour! Our Spring low tides uncover the bounty of the sea, and the plain midshipman sculpin spawning season serves up easy pickings for Bald Eagles. Bald Eagles from around the Puget Sound flock to the shores of the Hood Canal during this time. It is not uncommon to see 40 to 60 Bald Eagles on the beach and perched in overhanging trees, and some days we’ve seen over 100! Watch and learn about Bald Eagles with our Biologist and Naturalists and be sure to bring your camera for some rare up-close photos of eagles in their natural environment! If you prefer a date that is not listed just give us a call to arrange. We can conduct this tour almost any day within the season parameters. Join Master Gardener Dianna Wiklund to talk potatoes! She has been gardening on Marrowstone for 18 years and grows 100 – 200 pounds of potatoes a year. This will be a conversation about how to grow potatoes in Jefferson County. What they need, what they don’t need, and how to harvest them. We will talk about different types of potatoes and which have been the most successful. Dianna will answer your questions about what she has done wrong and all the mistakes she has made so that you don’t have to make those, you can make your own new ones!
