Navy Vessels and Your Safety
Please be aware that military maneuvers occur frequently in Dabob Bay and the Hood Canal. Submarines from Bangor Sub Base do dives in the deep waters. Follow all directions given to you by military personnel carefully! Operate your vessel at minimum speed when within 500 yards and do not approach within 100 yards. If you must approach within 100 yards to comply with the Navigation Rules you must contact the Navy Vessel or the Coast Guard Escort Vessels on VHF Channel 16 for permission and instructions. Check out more about the Navy’s historic presence in this area online at the Historic Naval Ships Association.
Herb Beck Quilcene Marina and Industrial Park
The Herb Beck Marina and Industrial Park is located on the west side of Quilcene Bay, opening to the Hood Canal, south of Port Townsend and the Hood Canal Bridge. Great location for water recreational activities, including fishing, crabbing, clamming, shrimping and much more.

Broad Spit County Park is an undeveloped, 43.8 acre, boat-in only, “leave no trace” kayaking destination on Tarboo Bay that is a pristine wilderness park on the east side of the Bolton Peninsula. The Bolton peninsula juts out separating Quilcene Bay from Dabob Bay. Locally it is known at “East Quilcene”. There is no public access by land to Broad Spit County Park from Bolton Peninsula via Broad Spit Road. Beachable boats only are advised, due to the tidal action which exposes shellfish-laden sandy shore and mudflats.
