May 8, 2025
Sophie DeGroot, the Jefferson County Noxious Weed Coordinator, will join us on May 8th from 10-12pm for a “Weed Walk.” While we learn to identify noxious weeds in our area, she will share additional information on what exactly a noxious weed is, why it is important to control them, who to report them to, and how we may employ different control techniques throughout the year. Bring your questions on all things noxious weeds!

Sophie was born and raised in Seattle. She moved to the East Coast and Alaska for schooling and work before returning to her home state during covid. It was at this time that she began farming and earning a Masters Degree in Environmental Policy. Working at the Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control Board fulfills her deep desire to be outside in the landscape, while being able to shape and improve policies on the local level. While Noxious Weeds are quite a niche topic, learning to identify, control, and respect noxious weeds has become a passion of hers. In her free time she serves on the Board of Jefferson Search and Rescue, loves hiking with her dog, swimming in the ocean, and biking with friends.
