Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area Housing Charrette

Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area Housing Charrette

5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
March 27, 2024

Jefferson County invites to you learn about the Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area Regulations

March, April, and May, Jefferson County will host a series of developer charettes to share information about urban regulations that’ll come into effect once the sewer is complete in the Port Hadlock Urban Growth Area. Charrettes are a collaborative planning process that harnesses the talents and energies of all interested parties to create and support development meeting the community’s needs and expectations.

After the kickoff event on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, charrettes are planned for Thursday, April 25, 2024, and May 30, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. More information about the sewer is available online at: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1158/Port-Hadlock-Wastewater-System

As part of these charrettes, property owners and those interested in developing missing middle housing will identify barriers to the construction of multifamily housing that’s compatible with the surroundings. Missing middle housing is typically defined as a range of multi-family housing units that are compatible in scale and form with detached single-family homes, and are typically designed to blend into the existing community. These housing types are designed to ensure a walkable, bikeable neighborhood that’s safe for eight and eighty-year-olds.  Several of the goals of these meetings are to: (1) ensure that more housing is available, (2) that some of the new housing is affordable to the range of incomes prevalent within Jefferson County, and (3) that developers or current property owners can construct housing or improve property they already own based on local economics.

A review of the urban regulations effective once the phase 1 sewer project is complete will be focused on the first charrette.  The parallel goal is to ensure that many of the area’s new community members know what to expect in the future. Later charrettes may lead to a zoning text amendment or comprehensive plan amendment that revises the zoning code or comprehensive plan at the point that urban regulations are available, or soon beforehand.
