Tribal Canoes Visit Brinnon
Thursday, July 19th, 2012, 3PM
Welcome the tribal canoes at the Yelvik’s beach (off HWY 101 just North of Brinnon) as they make their journey through the area. The North Hood Canal Chamber will be providing spaghetti dinner for their pullers and family support teams. The Baischs will provide the table settings, coffee, soft drinks and water. Everyone in the community is invited to share in the “potluck” festivities; please bring salad or desert for the table or anything else that would be helpful. We would appreciate it if no “spirits” are brought. The tribes do the paddle journeys as a right of passage for their youth and no one can participate if they are not clean and sober. They have a good deal of success with this program as an incentive for their youth and adults to stay away from drugs and alcohol. There is usually drumming in the evening.

Library Donation From Quilcene
Monday, September 17th, 2012
Last August, on the primary election ballot, the Jefferson County Library failed to receive the 60% approval required, so the Library was not able to bond for the $8.4 million needed for the new construction. But the problem remains; our Library is suffering from its own remarkable success. There’s not enough room for the books and other resources, nor is there enough room for everybody to use the Library and its spaces as they would like. The Library still desperately needs a “fix” and to help the library get close to their goal, generous local families have set up a CHALLENGE so that every donation of $1.00 to $1,000 will be matched dollar for dollar. Here are three ways to make your tax deductible contribution: 1. Make a check payable to the Jefferson County Library and send it to: Jefferson County Library, Attn: Ray Serebrin, Director, 620 Cedar Avenue, Port Hadlock, WA 98339; 2. Click here and follow the prompts to donate online. Remember to ask for your donation to be matched under the “Make a Difference Campaign;” 3. Go to the US Bank in Quilcene and ask the teller to deposit your donation to Count Me In for Quilcene, specifying the Jefferson County Library remodeling fund. We will gather up all these donations on Sept. 17 and deliver the total amount to the Library as a gift from Quilcene. Thanks for supporting our Jefferson County Library. You’ll be glad you did!
